Tabex® is a natural product based on cytisine which, due to its structural similarity to nicotine, binds to various types of nicotinic receptors: its binding affinity to α4β2 is very high (seven times that of nicotine) and it acts as a partial agonist on them.

Tabex Sopharma - composition
The active ingredient in Tabex®, as already mentioned, is cytisine, an alkaloid isolated from the plant Cytisus Laburnum. Its chemical structure is similar to that of nicotine and owes its effectiveness in combating smoking withdrawal symptoms to the fact that it competes with the same receptors in the brain, the so-called nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
Cytisine, however, has a greater ability to bind to these receptors and thus 'protects' them from nicotine by preventing it from binding to them. As a result, the symptoms of nicotine addiction gradually diminish until they disappear. In effect, cytisine mimics the effect of nicotine in the body during intake.
